100TH BIRTHDAY
When:
Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes
Please help us celebrate Martha Sala’s 100th Birthday.
Born February 2nd, 1921. The early years were hard for her and her siblings. The love and guidance they needed were shadowed by poverty and the early loss of their mother. Years in orphanages and later separated in foster care, the siblings eventually found each other in adulthood.
At the tender age of 12, she was placed in the last and best foster home in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba with Alphonse and Leoncie Badiou. There, she learned about love, trust, family values and hard work. She has always shared fond memories of the time she spent there and kept in touch with them throughout the years.
In her late teens, Martha found the love of her life, Charles. They married and later raised 5 children on the family farm just west of Notre Dame de Lourdes. It was there she lived for 80 years until summer of 2020. They had a variety of animals, an apiary and farmland. Life was not always easy, but they never shied away from hard work. They had many friends and often made time for family picnics and get togethers playing baseball, music, singing and dancing. She was happy and proud of her family.
Sadly, she lost her husband at the young age of 53. It was not easy for her, but it did shape her into the person she is today. She once said that “Every Storm is Part of your Journey” and there were many storms along the way.
She always stayed busy volunteering at the 4H club, the local news paper, many many BINGOs, Club d’Age d’Or and card games at the local care home. She crocheted afghans, sweaters, baby sets and made pies for socials and fundraisers. Best of all, she is still doing some of this today. She has always said that if she had made a penny for every stich knitting, crocheting, making patch quilts and petit point; she would be a millionaire. Her work will always be found on family, friends and even the newborn babies at the local hospital.
You will never leave her home with an empty belly. Whether it’s a big spread of her home cooking or leaving with a tray of dainties, butter tarts, homemade pies, pickles or jam. She has always been very generous with her goodies but most of all she has always been there for family and friends.
She has touched the hearts of so many with her kindness, sense of humour and generosity.
Please help us make her 100th Birthday an incredibly special one by sending her a note or card to Mrs Martha Sala PO BOX 257 Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB R0G 1M0.
